PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Highway Patrol is investigating a Pickens crash that claimed a motorcyclist's life on Tuesday.

The crash was first reported just after 4:15 a.m. along Bethlehem Ridge Road near Griffin Mill Road.

Cpl. Bill Rhyne said a Harley Davidson and a trash truck were both headed south on Bethlehem Ridge Road when the truck went to make a left turn.

As the motorcycle tried to pass the truck, Rhyne said he tried to lay the Harley down but came off, and hit the truck. Troopers said the man died at the scene and was not wearing a helmet.

The driver of the trash truck was not injured, according to troopers.

The Pickens County deputy coroner identified the victim as James H. Boggs, 33, of Pickens.
