WARE SHOALS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Ware Shoals man is accused of holding his girlfriend hostage, keeping her in a boarded up room and threatening to kill her because he believed she had slept with other men, according to police.

Ware Shoals police said they were called to the couple's Edgewood Drive home on May 25 by the victim saying she wanted to leave the home she shared with Jeffrey Dutton, 43, because he threatened to kill her.

According to the police report, Dutton began threatening the woman on May 19 and accused her of sleeping with his brother and with other men.

The woman told police the threats continued for the next few days, saying at times he would threaten to kill her, "bust your head wide open" and "have you leaving in a body bag," according to the report. Police said Dutton also punched the woman in the head.

Police said the day the woman called them, Dutton hit her again and then threw a butcher knife at her.

According to the report, Dutton would not let her leave the house and every night would board up the door to the bedroom she was in, put padlocks on the door and made her use the bathroom in a pot, threatening her if she tried to leave.

Police said they arrested Dutton on the charges of criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and kidnapping.
