GREENWOOD, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenwood County deputies said a disturbance call led to the discovery of a small fire inside an apartment where a woman tried to burn down the home following a dispute with her lover.

Deputies said a neighbor called them to an apartment on Parkland Place Road about 2:55 a.m. on Sunday because of a woman throwing things around an apartment.

When they arrived, officers encountered the woman who said "Take me to jail, I did it," according to the deputy's report.

When the officer tried to detain her in handcuffs, deputies said she jerked away and yelled at them to get off. The report stated the officer used minimal force to take her to the ground and control her.

While investigating the initial disturbance, deputies said the smoke detector was going off and they began to see smoke from inside the apartment. The report stated they entered to find a couch flipped over and smoke coming from the bottom of it. Deputies said nearby there was toilet tissue that was burnt.

Other items were scattered across the apartment as if it had been ransacked, deputies said.

When she calmed down, deputies said the woman told them she and her lover lived there together but recently got a new apartment in Mauldin. According to the report, she said they got into an argument and her lover left, angering her and prompting her to tear up the apartment and light the couch on fire with the intention of burning down the home.

The woman, identified as Keietta La'Von Gaston, 21, was arrested and charged with third-degree arson and breach of peace.
