WAYNESVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Interstate 40 in North Carolina near the Tennessee border is back open after crews worked to eliminate potential rockslide hazards.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation closed both directions of the interstate near exit 7, the Cold Springs Road exit, until around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Crews climbed the mountain to scan the rock wall to remove sizable rocks that are threatening to fall onto the road.

NCDOT said the hazards and debris were successfully removed.

One lane of the interstate was closed in the same area last week after a rockslide narrowly missed the road. DOT said the lane closure was precautionary at the time.
