SIMPSONVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

UPDATE: Simpsonville police said they will not pursue charges against Hillcrest High Principal Stephen Chamness. They said they will let the school district handle the matter. Read the updated story here.

A principal at a Greenville County school is being investigated after a bomb threat.

Captain Kevin Threlkeld with the Simpsonville Police Department said school resource officers at Hillcrest High School were notified that the school was going to be evacuated due to a bomb threat on Thursday.

Threlkeld said Principal Stephen Chamness knew about the threat a week earlier and failed to notify police.

He said the threat was written on a bathroom wall and was found by another faculty member, who told Chamness.

Police are also investigating three other threats written on a bathroom wall in the last 30 days at the school, according to Threlkeld.

Threlkeld emphasized that it is an open investigation.

Greenville County Schools spokesman Oby Lyles released the following statement:

The district administration was made aware this afternoon of the Hillcrest High School bomb threat and we are in the process of investigating this incident. District procedures and expectations are very clear that bomb threats and any other threat to students and staff must be reported immediately to both law enforcement and the district administration.
