The Parker-Hannifin plant will remain closed through 1st and 2nd shifts on Monday June 9th. The plant will re-open for 3rd shift on Monday and employees should report to working that evening during normally scheduled hours.

A large fire at Parker-Hannifin Corporation can now be attributed to its start - a transformer fire. Greeneville Power and Light is investigating what caused the transformer to catch fire in the first place. Results are expected to be released within the next few weeks.

"We do have a couple of transformers that need replacement so for right now operations have been suspended until further notice. We're hopeful that we can be back up and running on Monday," Parker-Hannifin's Division Human Resources Manager Tyler Ennis said.

A large fire burned for about an hour outside the Parker-Hannifin Corporation in Greeneville when a large power transformer just outside the automotive parts manufacturer exploded.

No one was injured.  "We're very fortunate with an explosion of this magnitude right next to a place where people were working," said Bill Brown, Greene County EMA Director.

The explosion happened around 8:20 pm.   Greeneville Fire Department Chief Mark Foulks said the fire was extinguished around 9:20pm.

The transformer was inside a concrete barrier.

Parker-Hannifin was evacuated after the explosion.  Fire damage was contained to the outside of the building.

Greeneville Fire Department, Greeneville EMA and EMS, and representatives with Greeneville Light and Power were on the scene.

The cause of the fire was unknown as of Thursday night.
