LIBERTY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

In a quiet corner of Pickens County, there is a building hidden from the main road, and inside it isn't so quiet.

Samantha Gamble runs the Foothills Humane Society.

"We're having to turn people away daily simply because we just do not have the space," said Gamble. "We take in about 100 animals a month and we only actually adopt out about 17 a month."

She said the shelter simply cannot take in anymore animals until the dogs and cats there find homes.

"We've had to turn people away now for the last couple of weeks," said Gamble.

She said the problem is that people think Pickens County Animal Control and the Humane Society are the same entity.

"People don't realize we're here. A lot of people don't realize that there is a Humane Society in Pickens County - that we are an actual adoption facility," she said."We just really need help keeping our doors open."
