Deputies said they found guns, ammo and other items in a man's home after he attacked his girlfriend while trying to kick her out, and eventually tried to drive off dragging her alongside his truck.
Spartanburg County deputies said they were first called to the domestic dispute along Fairview Church Road on Saturday after witnesses saw a woman walking along the road when a truck pulled up and the driver began to yelling.
The woman went to grab the door handle and the driver took off, trying to drag her down the road, according to the sheriff's office report. Deputies said another SUV approached and the pickup truck rammed its back bumper.
The woman got into the SUV, which took off to get away from the pickup, deputies said.
Deputies were then called to a home where the female victim was located and she told deputies her boyfriend, 27-year-old Clay Brooks was "in a rage," according to the report. Deputies said Brooks told her to leave, cursing her then tried throwing an ashtray at her but missed.
He got a shotgun, threatened to kill her then hit her in the back of the head with the stock end of the gun, according to the report. Then he took some of her belongings and put them a burn barrel, pouring gasoline on them, deputies said.
That's when the woman left the house and began walking along Fairview Church Road but Brooks followed after her, deputies said. The report stated she called a friend to come pick her up but Brooks drove up yelling for her to get into the truck.
Then he pointed a gun at her and threatened to shoot if she did not get in, deputies said. When her friend in the SUV pulled up, deputies said he pointed the gun and threatened to kill the driver.
When deputies went to the couple's home they said they did not initially find Brooks but when they went back on Sunday he was home. Deputies said they asked Brooks for permission to search the home for the gun involved, which he declined, so they received a search warrant from a judge.
Upon searching Brooks' Studhorse Road the property, deputies said they found two shotguns, assorted ammo, a bullet-proof vest, a M74 rifle, ball tickets and an alcohol still among other items.
Deputies said Brooks' record showed he was convicted of two counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, meaning he was in violation of weapon possession laws.
Brooks was arrested and charged with criminal domestic violence high and aggravated, malicious injury to personal property, assault and battery high and aggravated, two counts of pointing and presenting a firearm in connection with Saturday's incident.
Deputies also charged him with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon - four counts, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of body armor by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and possession of ball tickets in connection with the search warrant.
