GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

FOX Carolina spoke with the man Greenville County deputies charged with breach of peace after what they initially called a possible attempted kidnapping at an Upstate supermarket.

Deputy Drew Pinciaro said on May 30, they responded to the Bi-Lo supermarket in the K-Mart Plaza after a report of a possible kidnapping.

He said when deputies arrived they talked to a woman who said a man approached her while she was shopping and started yelling at her, demanding she give him his son.

According to Pinciaro, the man continued yelling profanities and demanding the child.

The victim told the man that it was her daughter. Pinciaro said the man then looked at her in confusion and walked out of the store.

The victim said she does not know the suspect and has never seen him before.

Pinciaro said they identified the man as Joshua Clyde Medders and charged him with breach of peace of a high and aggravated nature.

He said Medders will not be charged with kidnapping because he never made any physical attempt to take the child.

FOX Carolina's Cody Alcorn spoke with Medders on Wednesday night about what happened in the store before he was arrested.

Medders said he was off his seizure medication and was disoriented when he walked up on the baby.

"I really don't know 100 percent what happened because I wasn't myself," Medders said.

Medders said he saw the baby in its carrier on the juice aisle.

"I just thought someone walked off and left their baby so I picked him up and walked him toward the meat counter and said is this anyone's baby and she came running up, her and boyfriend or something, came running up aggressively," Medders said. "That's what made me get aggressive, and from there on I don't remember anything ... I know it exploded into profanities and it should have never got that far ... should never got that far."

When Medders learned there was a warrant for his arrest, he said he did not feel like he deserved jail.

"In my confused state, how you get when you have a seizure, you're just confused about everything, you don't know where you are or what you're doing," Medders said. "I guess to me the baby looked like my son, but I never tried to take him from her or anything like that."

Medders apologize to the baby's mom for what happened. He said he would not want it to happen to anyone else, having three children himself.

"God bless her and I'm so terribly, so so terribly sorry. Like I said I wasn't myself," he said.

Medders was released from jail on bond following his arrest Wednesday.
