Haywood, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Highway 276 in Haywood County was shut down after a crane accident on Monday afternoon.

Fire officials with the Caruso Fire Department said a 60-ton crane from Superior Cranes went down an embankment after taking out 200 feet of guardrail.

Firefighters on scene said a truck was carrying the crane from South Carolina to North Carolina when the back trailer went off the side of the road and fell into the gully.

They said the driver was injured, but not seriously.

Highway Patrol said the road was closed on the stretch of Highway 276 between Brevard and Waynesville which leads to the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Superior Cranes is planning on bringing in another crane to pull out the wrecked one. They said it will be an all night process.

Detours were set up in the area.

There was no estimated time the road will reopen.
