SC elections agency says ballot omission fixed

Posted: Updated:

South Carolina's Election Commission says the adjutant general's GOP primary race was mistakenly left off 41 absentee ballots in Florence County before the omission was discovered and fixed.

Agency spokesman Chris Whitmire said Monday those 41 voters were sent replacement ballots in time to cast a full ballot.

Whitmire says the agency has made changes to ensure such an omission doesn't happen again. He says it occurred because a Florence County employee entered the ballot data into the computer manually instead of importing it through a file as part of a new candidate tracking system.

James Breazeale is challenging incumbent Adjutant Gen. Robert Livingston in the primary.

Whitmire says the candidates were accidentally entered as representing separate parties, so the system assumed no primary was needed in the race.
