ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Anderson police said one person is in custody after a shot was fired during a high-speed chase through the city late Monday night.

Police said an officer on patrol noticed a car make a sudden turn from Bleckley Street onto Dobbins Avenue about 11:25 p.m. and when he ran the license plate, it did not match the car it was on.

The officer turned his blue lights on to pull the car over, but the Cadillac did not stop, police said. When the car turned onto Woodside Avenue, police said a passenger jumped out while the car was moving and took off running through backyards of nearby homes.

About 30 seconds later the driver pulled out a gun, pointed it toward the rear directly at the fully marked patrol car and fired one shot, according to the police report. Police said the bullet missed the car and officer.

When the car turned onto Raymond Street, police said the suspect bailed out of the car while it was still moving, causing it to roll into a ditch. Officers said the man took off running through the backyards of homes along Bowman Drive.

Deputies and police began searching the area and said the man was spotted behind some trash cans and taken into custody.

Police said when they searched the man, they found a bag of marijuana hidden in his mouth, a glass pipe and a bag of methampethamine on him. They said he had a holster but no gun. When asked where the gun was, police said the man, identified as 37-year-old William Kilgore, would not tell them.

Police said he was taken to the Anderson City jail on charges of failure to stop for blue light, attempted murder, possession of methamphetamine, simple possession of marijuana, prowling and loitering in a drug area.

Police said the passenger was not located.
