Deputies: Manhunt suspect hides from deputies under farm house

NEWBERRY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Newberry County deputies said they were searching early Tuesday morning for a suspect believed to be involved in recent thefts after the person led them on a chase while hauling a lawn mower.

Deputies said they have been on patrol in the area of SC 34 and Plantation Acres Road east of Newberry after recent lawn and farm equipment thefts.

An officer spotted a pickup truck pulling a zero-turn lawn mower about 3:10 a.m. and tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver took off, deputies said.

They said the vehicle turned into Plantation Acres, entering a cul-de-sac, and four people jumped out, running away on foot.

Deputies said they detained three of the people but the fourth was able to flee towards SC 34. Deputies brought in bloodhounds and a helicopter to search the area, finding the suspect about 7:45 a.m. hiding under a vacant farm house off of Piester Road.

Albert Boyd Sr., 51; Quentin Pendleton, 37; Brion Thomas, 24; and Nicholas Whitener, 29, all of Columbia, were arrested and are being held at the Newberry County Detention Center on pending charges, deputies said.
