SIMPSONVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Simpsonville police said they will not pursue charges against the principal of Hillcrest High School on Tuesday.

Captain Kevin Threlkeld said Principal Stephen Chamness was being investigated after a bomb threat was found by school staff written on a bathroom wall on May 29. Threlkeld said Chamness was notified of the threat, but did not report it to police immediately.

He said the threat was dated for June 5 and Chamness did not notify police until that day, a week after police said he knew about it.

Police said they will let the school district handle the matter.

Greenville County Schools spokesman Oby Lyles said Chamness is still employed with the school and will retire this month, as previously planned.

The new principal, Bryan Skipper, will take over on June 16.

They said the bomb threat is still an active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Simpsonville Police Department at 864-967-9536.
