SIMPSONVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Simpsonville Police said a man accused of pulling a gun on a Bi-Lo employee and trying to rob her has been charged.

Capt. Kevin Threlkeld said in the early hours of May 16 it was reported that a man wearing a yellow and black jacket pulled out a handgun and demanded the money from the register at the Bi-Lo on Highway 14.

The cashier ran to another employee to get help and the suspect left the store, Threlkeld said.

On May 20, investigators identified the suspect as 25-year-old Ricky Allen Cota.  Police said they received a tip that led to his Facebook page, where he was wearing the same jacket worn during the robbery. They said the jacket had the word "Brazil" on it and the number 14 on the back.

Threlkeld said Cota was arrested on that date for an unrelated incident by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.

Simpsonville police have charged him with attempted armed robbery and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.

Threlkeld said the press release on the incident was delayed as to not compromise any other investigations.
