GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A man charged in connection with the attempted murder of a police officer in mid-May was denied bond on Tuesday, according to the solicitor's office.

Public Information Officer Johnathan Bragg said 28-year-old Darell Johnson was arrested in connection with an incident where an officer was struck by a car fleeing the Shemwood Crossing apartment complex.

On May 17, two officers got out of their patrol car and approached a suspicious vehicle playing loud music in the parking lot, police said. When one of the officers shined a flashlight into the car, police said the driver took off, hitting the officer as he fled and rolling over the officer's leg.

Police said Johnson was on the run after the incident and on May 24 he was taken into custody in DeKalb, GA.

He was brought back to Greenville to face the charges on June 12.
