DYERSVILLE, IA (KCRG/FOX) - Film lovers this weekend flocked to the site where Field of Dreams was shot to pay homage as the legendary baseball film celebrates its 25th anniversary.

Actor Kevin Costner, who starred as daydreaming farmer Ray Kinsella in the movie, was on hand Saturday to play a few rounds of catch with his sons.

It was fitting that fans celebrated the film on Father's Day weekend, given the father-son back story featured in the plot.

"Just amazing, we'll never forget it, we'll never forget it, so it's been a good day," said Ron Lovell, who was there with his son, Tucker. "The whole just have a catch with your son and just the whole message behind the [film], everything that comes with the movie is just amazing."

About 11,000 people were expected to join in events at the site Saturday.

Field of Dreams was nominated for three Academy Awards in 1990, including Best Picture.

"There are just some films that just stick with people and, for whatever reason, if you get it - not everybody does - but if this connects with you it just stays with you," said sports broadcaster Bob Costas.
