SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg police are investigating a robbery at a gas station after an armed suspect fled the scene, according to police.

Dispatch said the robbery happened at the Spinx on John B. White Sr. Boulevard early Monday morning.

The thief entered the store and went to the restroom and when he exited it, he went to the register, playing a shopping bag on the counter and demanded money, police said.

The police report stated the suspect pulled a pistol from his waistband and said, "If everything goes good, I won't have to use this."

Police said he fled on foot with a bag full of cash. Police searched for the thief but did not locate him, clearing the scene a little before 7 a.m.

Investigators at the scene reported the robber appeared to be homeless.

No one was injured in the robbery, police said.
