Durham Police say sexual assault report 'unfounded'

Posted: Updated:
DURHAM, N.C. -

Durham Police said Thursday that a report of a sexual assault from early Tuesday morning was "unfounded."

A woman had told officers that she was waiting for a ride shortly after midnight when a man dragged her behind a nearby business and sexually assaulted her.

Police had said the woman was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Police originally reported that the assault occurred in the 4700 block of Hope Valley Road; however police later said the assault did not occur on Hope Valley Road.

Upon further investigation, officers ruled the case "unfounded." The Durham Police Department said officers do not plan to file charges against the woman at this time.
