Driver airlifted from single-car Union Co. crash

WHITMIRE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Troopers are investigating a single-car crash in Union County that sent the driver to the hospital early on Wednesday.

The crash happened about 5:40 a.m. along SC 72 near US 176 in the Whitmire area.

According to the Highway Patrol, a driver ran off the side of the road, over-corrected then overturned, striking a tree.

Troopers said the driver was wearing a seatbelt but had to be rescued from the car and flown to the hospital. There is no word on his condition.

Troopers said no other vehicles or passengers were involved in the wreck.

Drivers in the area should expect delays on the accident is cleared.
