MAULDIN, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Mauldin police have arrested a man accused of stealing hundreds of cartons of cigarettes from multiple stores in the Upstate.

Sgt. Det. Benjamin Ford said 53-year-old James A. Stevenson was arrested and charged with nine counts of second-degree burglary.

Ford said Stevenson used force to break into several different convenience stores at night in the city and stole cartons of cigarettes.

Police said he would often wear a plastic bag over his head during the robberies to conceal his identity for surveillance cameras.
