BELTON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A woman has been arrested and charged after police say they found numerous dead cats at her Belton home.

On June 18, Belton police responded to a home on Anderson Street about a bad smell coming from the residence, according to Chief Tommy Clamp Jr.

Clamp said officers entered the home and found 37 deceased cats in various stages of decomposition as well as 32 live cats.

He said they took possession of the cats and transported them to the Anderson County animal shelter.

Anderson County P.A.W.S. confirmed that they received numerous cats from Belton police that were in bad shape.

On Thursday, the resident of the home, 46-year-old Julianne Westberry, was arrested and charged with ill treatment to animals, according to Clamp.

Clamp said any additional charges brought against Westberry will be handled by the Anderson Solicitor's Office during the indictment process.

Clamp said the case is still under investigation but no additional arrests are expected in this case.
