GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Greenwood toddler whose smile has melted the hearts of many was reunited with the woman who was so moved by his story, she raised money to get him a new wheelchair.

Wyatt Banks has made national headlines last year when he became one of the youngest people ever to use a wheelchair on his own.

Now he has a new ride made by Box Wheelchairs and delivered to him through a Colorado woman's Finish Strong Ministries.

Heather Gray grew up with Wyatt's mom Abby Banks and when they met again at their high school reunion, she learned about Wyatt's rare neurological condition called transverse myelitis.

Through her ministry, which was inspired by her husband's death during combat in Afghanistan, she raised money for the wheelchair.

She was in the Upstate on Thursday signing copies of her book Faith, Hope, Love and Deployment and Wyatt wheeled in to be reunited with her.

"If you've ever met Wyatt, you know he has this infectious spirit that just lights up a room," said Gray.

And she said his strength and determination embodies her ministry. The Banks had not seen Gray since Wyatt received his wheels, which they call a blessing.

"The amazing thing about the chair that Heather bought is that it's so light, it gives him so much more freedom than the other chairs. He can push it without a lot of effort," Banks said.

Wyatt will be spending time this summer working on intense physical therapy at Shriner's Hospital in Philadelphia. Follow Wyatt's progress on Facebook here.
