HANOVER, VA (WWBT) -

The driver of a tractor-trailer was killed in Hanover Monday when his truck ran off the road, hit an embankment and overturned.

The driver, James H. McAden, III, 64, died at the scene of the crash.

The Hanover Sheriff's Department said the crash happened around noon Monday in the 13500 block of Verdon Road. Authorities said the 1999 Kenworth tractor-trailer was headed east on Verdon Road when it entered a curve, crossed the center line, then ran off the left side of the road. The truck was hauling a load of milk, authorities said.

Verdon Road was closed between Hewlett Road and New Market Mill Road for several hours while deputies investigated the crash and crews worked to remove the vehicle and other debris from the roadway. The Virginia Department of Transportation announced around 8:30 p.m. Monday that the road is back open.
