COLUMBIA, SC (AP/FOX Carolina) -

South Carolina voters are returning to the polls to choose nominees in a handful of races that needed a runoff.

Statewide, there are two Republican races Tuesday. Henry McMaster faces Mike Campbell for lieutenant governor and Molly Spearman faces versus Sally Atwater for education superintendent.

The Democrats have one statewide race, with Sheila Gallagher against Tom Thompson for superintendent.

Turnout for the primary runoffs is expected to be light. Just 16 percent of the state's registered voters cast ballots in the June 10 primary, when contests included five statewide races and both U.S. Senate seats.

In 2010, turnout fell 15 percent from the primary to the runoff.

The polls opened at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m. Registered voters who skipped the primary can still cast ballots in the runoff.

Two Upstate runoff races held

In Greenville County, there is a primary runoff race for Republican County Council District 26 between Lynn W Ballard and Todd W Frederick.

In Spartanburg County, there is a special election runoff for the Mayor of Inman between candidates Bessie Fisher and Cornelius Huff.
