ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Asheville Police said a bank robbery suspect is in custody after a brief foot chase.

Sgt. Dave Romick said Michael Kelley, 28, of Candler walked into the Telco Credit Union on Tunnel Road just after 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Kelley approached a teller and told the teller the bank was being robbed and that he had a gun, Romick said.

The teller handed over money and the manager followed Kelley out of the bank, and saw Kelley get behind the wheel of a dark green Subaru station wagon with a female and a child in the car, Romick said.

A short time later, officers said they spotted Kelley alone behind the Home Depot store on Acton Circle.

Kelley was injured during a brief foot pursuit and taken to the hospital, officers said.

Romick said Kelley will be charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon when he released from the hospital.
