PELZER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A 10-year-old Upstate girl who had her dream car stolen now has her beloved set of wheels back.

Lisa Tucker used $2,000 that she earned from doing chores and helping at her family's scrap yard to buy a 1967 Volkswagen Beetle, which she hoped to fix up with her family and display in car shows.

The car was stolen Tuesday morning from the family's home in Pelzer.

On Sunday afternoon, Lisa's mom, Joy Tucker, said Anderson County deputies called her with good news. Deputies had found the car near an address on Paul Street thanks to some tips from neighbors, Tucker said.

Just before 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Tucker said she and Lisa were able to drive the car back home. Tucker said deputies were still investigating but released the car back to her and Lisa.

The car was found in worse condition, having been stripped of its VIN. The lights were removed and wheels spray-painted, according to Tucker.

"You can tell they tried to put it in disguise because they tried to spray paint it - they spray painted the wheels. They used to be gold and now they're silver - put new hub caps on them," Lisa said.

Lisa plans to restore the Beetle with her father and when she's old enough, drive it herself.

On July 8, 2014, deputies said 40-year-old Doyle Lee Simmons was taken into custody in connection with the incident and charged with receiving stolen goods.
