Medwest Haywood emergency dept. back open after fire

CLYDE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Medwest Haywood's emergency department is taking patients once again after a small fire nearly two weeks ago.

A hospital spokesperson said crews completed repairs quicker than expected, allowing them to reopen the ED to patients Monday. Health officials approved the repairs after a fire broke out in the hospital's power room June 19.

While the ED transition is completed, Carolinas MED-1 will be at the hospital for temporary support.

The hospital hopes to have all departments, inpatient services and business offices back open in mid-to-late July.

All other MedWest Haywood facilities including The Outpatient Care Center, The Health & Fitness Center, all related physician practices, the Home Health and Hospice and Urgent Care Centers, have remained fully operational throughout this incident.
