SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg County is one step closer to having voters decide whether or not alcohol sales should be allowed on Sundays.

The county council held a special meeting on Tuesday where they unanimously passed the first reading of an ordinance.

The ordinance is to add the Sunday alcohol sales referendum to the ballot for November's election.

The council will have to hold two more readings of the ordinance by Aug. 15 in order for it to appear on the ballot.

In Greenville County, voters are also trying to get the referendum on the ballot by petition. They need 7,500 signatures by July 7 in order to have it added to the ballot. Click here to read more about their efforts.
