Asheville launches graffiti cleanup program for property owners

ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

The City of Asheville is offering help to property owners who have had their property tagged with graffiti.

On July 1, the city announced the beginning of their 90-day graffiti removal assistance program, called 123 Graffiti Free, which will give up to $500 in graffiti removal assistance in an attempt to clean up the city.

Property owners can report graffiti by using the Asheville App (, emailing, or calling 828-259-5960.

Once the city has been notified, staff will go out to the site and estimate the cost of removal. The city said the property owner will then have to sign a waiver and agree to pay all costs over the $500 limit.

The graffiti will then be removed within 48 hours by a contractor, according to city officials.

"We know that quick removal is one of the best deterrents to vandalism," said Cathy Ball, the city's Executive Director of Planning and Multimodal Transportation. "That's why the goal of the 90-day assistance program is to remove graffiti throughout the city and get us back to a baseline. Working together as a community, we can make a real impact on graffiti vandalism."

The program runs through Sept. 30.
