UNION, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Two Union men have been arrested in connection with two house fires in May, according to police.

Union Public Safety arrested Robert Small, 60, and William Gibson, 44, on Tuesday on two counts each of third-degree arson in connection with the May 13 fires on Thompson Boulevard.

According to the police report, the fires were considered suspicious as the houses were unoccupied and had no electric or gas service running at the time.

The homes were damaged in the fire.

Police did not say why or how the fires were started, but warrants state Gibson and Small "maliciously caused" the fires.

Additionally, deputies said Gibson was charged with an additional count of third-degree arson in connection with a June 9 fire at a home on Meadows Wood Road.

Sheriff David Taylor said Gibson was under contract to buy the home on June 11 and it belonged to Wells Fargo Bank. He said Gibson set fire to the home, destroying it.
