GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Greer woman was able to clutch onto her purse after police said another woman tried to steal it after she failed to help her pay for gas.

Greer police said the victim was in the parking lot of the Wade Hampton Boulevard Walmart when a woman in her early to mid-20s approached and said she needed gas.

The victim said she could not help and walked back toward her cart, but police said the suspect returned and tried to grab her purse.

Police said the victim held on and the suspect eventually let go, ran away and got into a white, four-door sedan.

There were three other women with the suspect and they all left in the car, police said.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Det. Bash at jbash@cityofgreer.org or at 864-848-5351.
