Johnson City Police Department officers arrested an Elizabethton woman Thursday following an investigation into a report of embezzlement on June 19.

According to a JCPD news release, officers responded to Mattress Firm, 2111 N. Roan St., on June 19, where managers said they found discrepancies in bank records and company paperwork involving sales of merchandise.

The investigation reportedly revealed that Jennifer Looney, 31, 215 E. Mill St., had been accepting cash payments from customers and ringing up the transactions as a credit card payment.

According to the release, Looney would then steal the cash from the business a total of 20 times. Looney reportedly took $19,000 from Mattress Firm over a period of several months.

Looney was located by police and admitted to stealing the money.

She was charged with theft of property over $10,000 and was taken to the Washington County Detention Center.

Looney was being held on $10,000 bond, pending her arraignment in Sessions Court on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
