The severe weather that barreled through Western Massachusetts Thursday night left thousands in the region without power.
At about 10:30 p.m. Western Mass Electric Company was reporting more than 5,000 people without power, nearly 2,000 of those left in the dark were in Springfield.
National Grid was also reporting scattered outages throughout Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin Counties.
Downed trees caused much of the problems throughout the night, taking down utility poles and wires.
