TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Local authorities are gearing up for Toledo's Fourth of July celebration on Friday.

In the past, 80-100,000 people have squeezed into downtown Toledo for the ‘Red, White, KABOOM' fireworks show. In order to accommodate the extra people, some rules will be enforced.

Road Closures

The Toledo Police Department says Ottawa Street between Washington and Broadway will close at 8:30 p.m. Summit Street between Washington and Cherry will be closed at 9:00 p.m. The King Bridge will close at 9:45 p.m. Everything will re-open when the fireworks end.

Note: The High Level Bridge is still closed due to construction.

Parking

Parking will only be allowed in designated areas. Parking on the lawn of the Marina District will not be allowed. Police say anyone parked in a garage should not expect to get out before 11 p.m.

On the river

The Coast Guard and other law enforcement agencies will be enforcing maritime rules on the river. There will be an extended ‘no wake zone' for boaters between the I-280 Glass City Skyway and the Railroad Bridge, upriver of the High Level Bridge.

A command center will be set up at the fire department headquarters, and three Medics On Patrol units will patrol the downtown area.

"We've been able to deploy them and able to get to these different individuals in these large crowds much more quickly than trying to drive a regular fire truck in there," said TFD Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld.

Mutual aid will be on standby from the Rossford and Washington Township fire departments.
