BLACKSBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The man who was removed from a Blacksburg home by SWAT team members after he refused to leave for nearly seven hours has been identified and charged with domestic violence, according to the Cherokee County sheriff.

Sheriff Steve Mueller said deputies identified the suspect as Michael Davis II.

Muller said deputies were called to the Batchelor Drive home about 11:30 p.m. Thursday about a criminal domestic violence case.

He said they arrived to discover the suspect's girlfriend was already at the hospital, saying she had been choked and bitten on the face.

Deputies said an 85-year-old man was also in the home but able to walk out, but the suspect refused to leave.

As deputies and the SWAT team tried to negotiate with Davis, Mueller said he fired off gunshots throughout the night, about 10 rounds from a .357 handgun. Mueller said they continued to speak with the Davis, hoping to get him to surrender, but he continued to refuse.

After three to four hours, Mueller said the Spartanburg County SWAT team was brought in to help relieve Cherokee County due to the heat and conditions. At that point, Mueller said Davis refused to talk further with negotiators.

Just before 7 a.m., Mueller said the SWAT team deployed gas into the home, but Davis refused to leave, hiding in a closet. He said after a few minutes, the SWAT team entered the home and had to shoot Davis with a stun gun to take him into custody.

Mueller said Davis was taken to the hospital to be checked out but appeared to be OK. He said no one else was injured besides the victim.

Davis is expected to face additional charges one the investigation is complete, Mueller said.
