IVA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Abbeville County sheriff said a man is in custody after he shot and killed his father and tried to kill his step mother Friday.

According to the coroner's office, the shooting happened at a home on Sheep Leg Road in Iva about 2 a.m.

Deputy Coroner Sam Ferguson said Charles and Heidi Grogan were shot at the home and the gunman was taken into custody.

Charles Grogan died at the scene and Heidi was taken to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the coroner.

Sheriff Ray Watson said Duffy Grogan, 24, shot his Charles and Heidi and was arrested on the charges of murder, attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Watson said several firearms were recovered at the home including the gun believed to be used in the double-shooting. He said all three relatives lived at the home.

The State Law Enforcement Division is helping Abbeville County deputies with the investigation.
