GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Red Cross of the Western Carolinas says they are in urgent need of volunteers and will be holding orientation over the upcoming weeks for people interested in helping with disaster relief.

The orientations, which will be held in Asheville, Greenville and Spartanburg, will include an overview of Red Cross services, volunteer opportunities and information on how to get started as a volunteer with them, the Red Cross said in a press release.

The Red Cross said local volunteers respond to an average of two to three disasters a day, most of which are residential fires, including a fire caused by a lightning strike that displaced residents of an apartment complex off Pelham road in Greenville on July 3.

The orientations will be held at the following dates and locations:

Red Cross Office, 940 Grove Rd.

Thursday, July 10, 6-8 p.m.

Red Cross Office, 131 E. Main St.

Asheville

Wednesday, July 16, 6-8 p.m.

Red Cross Office, 100 Edgewood Rd.
