GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Greenville neighborhood of Nicholtown unveiled a new neighborhood sign and historical monument on Monday.

In 2009, the city purchased a plot of property at the corner of Nichol and Rebecca streets and asked the neighborhood association to help decide what to do with it.

The residents decided to create a community garden and design a neighborhood entrance sign that would celebrate the community's history, according to the city.

The sign is accompanied by a plaza paved with brick engraved with the names of families who have been part of the Nicholtown neighborhood since its inception in 1901 and also names of families who have moved to the neighborhood over the years.
