A western North Carolina man pleaded guilty to trafficking cocaine nearly three years after he was caught by investigators trying to buy a kilo in the Upstate.

According to the solicitor's office, 46-year-old Randy Murphy, of Fletcher, was sentenced in court on Monday to 15 years in prison and fined $50,000 in the drug case.

In December 2011, deputies arrested Murphy during an undercover investigation that tracked him from North Carolina to Campobello.

Prosecutors said Murphy was arrested while trying to buy the $28,000 worth of cocaine.

They said he had two previous convictions for conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine.
