HONEA PATH, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Honea Path woman said she's lucky to be alive after a couple of smooth talking thieves stole from her, and the victim said she thinks the pair may be targeting other senior citizens.

Frances Knight said she has lived in Honea Path for most her life.

"(Honea Path) is a wonderful place," Knight said. "I don't have to close or lock my door in the daytime"

Knight said she spends most days at home, practicing piano music for church, but on Tuesday Knight said the music abruptly stopped around 2 p.m. when a stranger came calling.

Knight said she got a knock at the door, and like usual, she opened it with a welcoming smile. She said she had no idea she was about to be robbed.

"There stood this guy and he said ‘I would like for you to come to the back with me to check out your property lines,'" Knight recounted.

Knight went outside with the man, where he told her he needed the property information because someone was interested in another property nearby.

Knight said the man started getting nervous, and when she turned to go back inside, she saw a woman leaving her house and getting into a pickup truck at the end of her driveway. Knight said the man quickly followed the woman to the truck, and the pair sped off.

"The first thing I did was look in my pocketbook where I had cash and they had got it," Knight said.

The elderly woman said she's glad she didn't walk back inside during the robbery.

"They would have probably hurt me or killed me, people like that will do anything," she said.

Knight says she believes she was targeted because of her age and has a message to other seniors in the area.

"When someone comes to your door, if you don't know them, do not open the door," Knight advised.

Knight said the suspects both appeared to be in their late twenties and were driving a gray pickup truck.

Honea Path Police are investigating the case and ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
