Spartanburg County passes second reading of Sunday alcohol sales referendum

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg County Council passed a second reading of a referendum that will allow voters weigh in on Sunday alcohol sales.

Councilman David Britt said the reading passed with a vote of 6-1 on Thursday morning.

Britt said O'Neal Mintz was the only council member that opposed the referendum.

A third reading will take place at the next county council meeting on July 21, Britt said.

If the reading passes for a third time, the referendum will be added on the election ballot in November.

Meanwhile the Greenville County Election Office is counting signatures on a petition that could allow a Sunday alcohol sales referendum on the November ballot in that county.
