FOREST CITY, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies said the Rutherford County Sheriff's Emergency Response Team (SERT) arrested a man following a standoff which lasted several hours.

SERT said Clyde Baker Jr., 68, of Joan Drive, Forest City, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, assault by pointing a gun and resisting a public officer.

Deputies were initially called the Baker's home on Joan Drive on Thursday just before 9 p.m. in reference to a subject with a gun and shots being fired.

Deputies said Baker refused to come out of the house or talk to deputies.

After several hours of failed negotiations, SERT was ordered to enter the home, where deputies said Baker was located in the front room with a handgun.

SERT took Baker into custody without incident, deputies said.

Baker is being held in the Rutherford County Detention Center on a $110,000 bond.
