The North Carolina Highway Patrol says a man wanted by U.S. Marshals led troopers on a high-speed chase that ended late Monday night with a crash on I-440 near Hillsborough Street in Raleigh.

Troopers said they attempted to pull over 30-year-old Dominic Cooley just before midnight on Monday, but Cooley drove off. The chase ended about 30 minutes later with Cooley flipping his SUV on I-440 near Hillsborough Street.

Troopers said Cooley crawled out of the car and attempted to run from the scene, but he wasn't able to get far before being caught.

A female passenger, identified as Christa Steadwell, had to be cut out of the SUV by emergency crews.

Crews took both the driver and passenger to the hospital. Cooley was subsequently charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, speeding 81 mph in a posted 60 mph speed zone, felony speeding to elude arrest, driving while license revoked and failure to maintain lane control.

Troopers said Cooley was additionally wanted by the U.S. Marshals Office for violating his probation. Cooley's most recent conviction was in 2012 for possession of a schedule V drug with intent to sell.

Cooley previously had multiple convictions and prison time.

Steadwell will not be charged in connection with the chase and crash.
