Suspect in Bobo disappearance appears in court

Posted: Updated:

One of the suspects in the kidnapping of nursing student Holly Bobo made a brief court appearance on Tuesday morning in connection with an unrelated incident.

Zach Adams, one of two men charged in connection with Bobo's April 2011 disappearance, was in Chester County General Sessions Court on Tuesday on charges of assaulting a detention officer.

A few weeks ago, an officer in the Chester County jail said Adams threatened suicide, and when they tried to move him to a safer cell, they say he hit a guard.

His aunt, Dinah Adams, said Zach Adams never threatened suicide and his family members say the guards pepper sprayed him before he started swinging.

Zach Adams waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, and the case will now be bound over to the grand jury.

Holly Bobo's parents showed up to watch the short hearing. Their family pastor took the time to speak to the crowd of cameras right afterward.

"It's a very difficult day, and it's going to continue to be difficult times ahead," said Don Franks.

He also had a message for anyone who was involved.

"There's a deadline set, and if somebody wants to cut a plea deal they need to begin talking because that deadline is approaching," Franks said.

The judge has said that after Jan. 14 he won't accept any plea bargains.

Zach Adams' aunt said to sit in the courtroom and look at the Bobos and see the hurt in their eyes is hard but looking at her nephew is hard because they know he's being accused of a crime he did not commit.

Zach Adams and Jason Autry face murder and kidnapping charges in connection with the disappearance of the 20-year-old Decatur County nursing student.
