GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenville County deputies said a report of a possible shooting at a Greenville County home was actually a hoax.

Deputies and SWAT responded to the home on Cedar Crossing Lane off East North Street just after 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

The homeowner told FOX Carolina she was just sitting in her house when SWAT surrounded her home. Deputies told FOX Carolina they had to evacuate neighbors.

Deputies said a male caller phoned into 911 dispatchers, saying he had shot his father at the home on Cedar Crossing Lane and was prepared to shoot others in the home, including himself.

When deputies arrived, they made contact with the homeowner and determined the call was a prank.

Drew Pinciaro with the Greenville Co. Sheriff's Office said deputies take any report of a hostage situation seriously, and will be investigating to find out who made the prank call.

Deputies began clearing the scene before 4 p.m.
