GAFFNEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

On Tuesday, a judge sentenced Quentis J. White, 31, to 18 years in prison for attacking his ex-girlfriend and her 3-year-old son after breaking into her home.

Solicitor Barry Barnette said White pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary and 2 counts of first-degree assault & battery at the Cherokee County Courthouse.

Gaffney police said White broke into a West Buford Street home back on Oct. 9, 2012 after his ex refused to let him in to talk. Once he got inside, they say he pushed the child and choked the woman before running away.

White will serve 80 percent of his sentence before he's eligible for release.

"I hope the sentence gives the victim much-needed relief," Assistant Solicitor Cliff Sams said. "She can move forward with her life knowing the defendant is not going to bother her any time soon."
