Spartanburg County deputies said a man put his girlfriend in headlock, punched her and held a gun to her neck trying to keep her from leaving.

Deputies said the woman was able to get away from the suspect, LeBryan Marquis Thomas, and call for help after the attack about 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Deputies said the woman had been at a friend's house and Thomas showed up uninvited, upset she was not picking up his phone calls.

Thomas made the woman get in his car, but when she tried to get out, he grabbed her and pulled her back inside, putting her in a headlock, according to the sheriff's office report.

Deputies said she screamed for him to let her go and tried to push him away, but he punched her in the lip then pulled out a pistol, forcing it to her neck and screamed, "Do you want to leave me?"

She was able to punch him and they struggled before she was able to get away, deputies said.

According to deputies, the woman had cuts on her lip, scratches and swelling from some of her injuries.

Deputies said an arrest warrant on the charge of assault and battery with intent to kill was issued for Thomas' arrest. Online jail records show Thomas was arrested on Wednesday, charged with attempted murder.
