Police: Union man pulls knife on deaf, mute man

UNION, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Police were called to a fight and said they discovered the suspect pulled a knife on a deaf, mute man, trying to cut him.

Union police said they were sent to a home on Pine Street on Tuesday about 6:30 p.m. where a witness told them Jimmy Rhinehart Jr., 45, pulled a knife out, pointing it at the victim.

The witness told police Rhinehart swung at the victim, trying to cut him.

Police said they were unable to get the victim's story, but Rhinehart said the man chased him and made threats, acting in self-defense.

According to the police report, officers advised Rhinehart that because the victim was deaf and unable to speak, how did he threaten Rhinehart.

Rhinehart was arrested and charged with drawing in affray.
