An Upstate man is in custody after deputies said he fired several shots into a car his roommate and her child were in, then caused it to crash into a telephone box.
Spartanburg County deputies were called to the crash scene on Spivey Creek Road on Wednesday.
According to the sheriff's office report, the victim and her child had been living with Robbie Hatfield strictly as roommates and were picked up by a friend to go get some of their belongings from his home.
After leaving, they saw Hatfield drive by on Highway 101 in his roommate's minivan and he fired three shots at the car they were in, deputies said.
The driver continued on but Hatfield came up from behind, hitting her car, causing it to crash as he drove away, the report stated. Deputies said they saw three bullet holes in the driver's side door and damage to the front and rear of the car from the crash.
Deputies said warrants were issued for Hatfield's arrest on charges of three counts of attempted murder and one count of malicious damage to property.
Online jail records show Hatfield was later arrested.
